In the Lot we have been on ‘Alerte Jaune’ (yellow alert), but here we have been lucky that, although there has been a great deal of rain, thus far we are coping. The Lot river has burst its banks but not too much, it is wide and deep and its usual languid waters are now roiling and flowing very fast. It is extremely dangerous but flood controls seem to be working well here. We went down to Vidal, a small area between Grézels and Pescadoires, the lock gates are laced with debris and resemble a tapestry wall-hanging, the force of the water is impressive. At the house we are staying in, which was a mill many years ago, the water travels under the house and makes a tremendous roar, we have had to adjust a couple of the sluices so the water is distributed better between the various channels. The lake here is quite high, and the fish are breathing sighs of relief as it was little more than a puddle at the end of last year. Now we see the local kingfisher every day, the area also has many herons and white egrets paddling about in the muddly shallows and wet fields.
We did need the water as the last real rain was back in September but it has been torrential. We can’t walk on the potager at all. Sunny and Caudy are very muddy and we are looking for another field as our is so wet that they are up to their fetlocks in it. We keep worrying that our little stream will burst its banks and the chicken will need lifeboats; but, touch wood, they are well and although miserable when it rains – why don’t they go inside the coop – they seem to be managing, and egg production is good as another bantam is sometimes laying so that is five a day.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][postgallery_grid id=”grid_ SS_G2_20180110_2″ data_source=”data-4″ null=”” slidesetid=”SS_G2_20180110_2″ content_type=”image” columns=”2″ height=”400px” align=”aligncenter” lightbox=”yes”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#deead0″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Perhaps you would like to know…
